Plastic-Based Electronics

I was quite stunned by today’s BBC news report (vid) which says that engineers plan to build the world’s first plastic electronics factory by 2008. The technology allows for the creation of plastic instead of silicon electronics and may prove to be revolutionary (some are saying that it’s akin to the discovery of the silicon transistor).
Image from Plastic LogicThe BBC video is really good and goes on to give examples of possible applications for the tech. Seems likely we’ll start seeing this technology widely applied in the next few years really feels pretty exciting! Some more technical stuff in an earlier BBC report, wikipedia, and Zdnet.
Sounds very sci-fi and very interesting. The company has a webpage with a lot of product concepts that are worth checking out, but you don’t really appreciate just what the implications are until you’ve seen some YouTube videos of it in action. Remind anyone else of Minority Report?
